Tour de Camden 2016
May 7, 2016 was the Tour de Camden, a local charity bike ride in support of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and United Way of Kershaw County. There are three routes: a metric century (62 miles), 50 mile and a 30 mile ride.
This year they trialed a 100 mile route with a few experienced riders. I love this ride as it’s my “home town” ride and the opportunity to ride the roads I train on, this time with 200+ riders and support stops, always makes me excited. May is a great time of year for a ride – sunny but not too hot. There were ample FGM cycling team members in attendance, mostly doing the metric century ride. That included Ricky Sox, Pamela Babbitt, Chris Walther, Tim Bostick, Kara Clyburn, Amy Wise and Fiona Martin.Doug Lucas took it a step further and demo-ed the 100 mile route.
Fiona and Amy added some extra punishment by using the ride as a long brick (bike + run immediately after) in preparation for the Mountains to Main Street Half only a couple of weeks away. All in all, it was a beautiful day to ride with friends. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed catching up over food provided by the ride and a live band, under the shady trees of Historic Camden Revolutionary War Park.
